the publisher probably would'nt have allowed to go as far as they already did if they had anything against it. i think it's just Japan general tendency to rarely include gay relationships beyond subtext in works not explicitely centered around them (ie yuri, yaoi, bara or some queer focused seinen), even when the author like thoses.
I still have good hope for thoses two, though. really the ony thing that keep them from beccoming canon is that Kou is too dense to notice Rin's obvious crush.
