There was a time I’d have my fingers crossed for a video game or anime or manga movie adaptation that was good and that would open up the floodgates for future endeavours. But I know better now and so all the hope and optimism within me is thoroughly dead and buried. You hear that Hollywood? You can’t disappoint me anymore you hacks.

How so? It was actually pretty loyal to the OVA's and part of the lore of the manga.
Sure, there were some changes like Ido's assistant, Koyomi and Tanji, but overall is the same story.
