For all the artist's obsession with the Nazis, this one is the true-to-life image. Tens of thousands of girls her age fought for the Soviet Union. Over thirty thousand kids under 18 were awarded the military medal for the defense of Moscow alone. The only dumb detail is the helmet. Wouldn't fit, wouldn't be carried.

She would look even more real dressed not in Army uniform, but in well-worn boys' civilian clothes -- a Red Partisan.
