^ Funny enough that's what the Legendary version reminds me of, if you read the script from the unmade 94 movie it's pretty clear they picked and choose some ideas for it when making Godzilla 2014.

Yes, they are and quite idiotic for dumping the original script and going for what is now known infamously for any Godzilla fans as the 98 film debacle that tarnished the franchise's good name. Toho had no choice but to revive the franchise in a direct response to the failure of the 98 film to correct the mistake Tristar did as a result.
