Games are meant to be played, no matter when they came out, or what year it is now. Nier Automata is fairly recent compared to some of the other games that people still play. On the topic of art being created on something that is (as implied by you) old, why is it that a lot of artists still create characters from games that have been out for far longer than this one? It's strange that anyone would need to have this told to them, but it's as simple as character design and aesthetic. If an artist like what they see (in this case, from a video game) they'll draw it. Why would it matter if it came out an hour ago or 20 years ago?
