Every Pokemon generation since Hoenn has essentially been a soft reboot to an extent. It's the same case for Ash's personality.
You might as well regard Classic, XY or S&M as different characters altogether.
And the Anime's writers have never really been that bothered about continuity anyway.

I actually believe in the coma theory, and I think Sun and Moon is actually the first season where Ash has finally woken up. The coma obviously fried his brain, he's deluded himself that his dreams were real, and the school is actually just a cleverly disguised rehab center.

Ash wasn't more mature in XY&Z, he just didn't emote as much.
He had like three facial expressions throughout the entire show.

Talking as if Ash didn't do some silly stuff in previous series (even XY) for comedy's sake.
Completely ignoring the fact that he's as good in battles in SM as he was in XY.
Claiming each series reboots Ash as a Trainer while this only truly happened in BW.
Forgetting that he was EVEN sillier in the original series you watched during your childhood.
...Yeah, this just proves people who hate on each new Pokémon series are more stupid than Ash himself.
