The stereoscopic images like this laid out for vr instead of cross-eye can be done without vr if you can relax your vision and slowly focus to bring the images together. A lot of people seem to struggle with it compared to cross-eye but I find it easier with less eye strain.
The downside is a cross eye stereogram can have a bigger image size bc you can cross your eyes way further than you can straighten them.
