@ Anon 4:
It's a little more longstanding than just he Kalos League. Ever since the Pokemon anime's start, Ash has never won a single league regardless of all his training with his team. He's been coming closer with each new season, but he never won. The Kalos League was where he came the closest to complete victory, he even had a full roster of competitively ranked Pokemon including an OP Greninja that could transform, but he still lost in the final moments, depriving us long time viewers of a win once again. It only makes us realize that as long as the Pokemon series is going to keep churning out new seasons with the new games, that Ash is never going to actually win a league.

@inky
Which is all the more goofy when you realize that as the series progresses Ash keeps going to new regions of the world and competing in new leagues without ever going back to previous ones, so not letting him win ever is janky as hell. It's not like the series would end if he won, he'd just go on to a new area and league anyways. Never letting him win is needless cockblocking.

@Sakura Yah, same. I had a huge crush on Misty growing up as a kid watching the first series, so her voice is still fresh in my mind. Probably will be forever since it was imprinted on me as a child.
