^ I don't remember which game it was, but a Pokedex entry once referenced an indian elephant. The Pokemon world is not Earth (except in that one movie...), so the elephant should not even be known about.
On a side note, I just wanna say it's awesome that pokemoa remembers ukulele Pichu!

Yep, a lot of PokeDex entries from Gen 1 references real-world places, animals, and events.
Lt. Surge is the Lightning 'American', Kanto is the legitimate name for the region it was based on in Japan, a Scientist in Silph Co. references the Tiksi Branch, the Pewter Museum mentions the date of the first moon landing, and early PokeDex entries reference the Eiffel Tower, Indian elephants, and the Himalayas.
The longer the series went on, the more the series strayed from reality, referencing less and less of the until they decided to make the Pokemon world an 'equivalent' to the real world rather than have it be the real world that just happened to have Pokemon in it.

@Espurr07
There IS some stuff referencing to the real world in the newer games, though, like a globe in your room in pokemon sun & moon, that is actually just a regular earth globe, although the game treats it like the pokemon world globe.
