^ Whether or not it's blood is up for debate. Some claim it's ketchup since that's what sans eats.
Others think it is blood and is meant to drive home that sans may not be the typical monster. He's the only one we don't see turn into a pile of dust when killed, at least not on screen.

^ My personal position is that it doesn't matter if it's ketchup or blood, what's important is the symbolism of it and that the splash of colour jolts the player out of their emotional safe-zone by showing a "bleeding" injury.

Some even propose the theory that sans isn't a skeleton at all, he's a revenant a monster that originated in ireland if im correct . A revenant is a corpse that was brought back with their own soul so they are a zombie but keep all their memories from before their death they are also stronger and faster than regular humans additionally their only perpose is to get revenge on the ones who wronged them which the most damning piece of evidence would be that when a revenant spots their target their eyes glow plus they are able to be in various states of decay so if sans bleeds he may only have flesh inside his chest where the player cant see it
