I never found much use for the dagger item. Doesn't seem all that great compared to the other pickup items.

You're right. Sorceress is really vulnerable and you're best off jumping around and evading as much as possible. Using a dagger means you have to get really close to your enemy and when playing as Sorceress this basically never a good idea. Throwing it is too weak to be worth your time. To be honest, I avoid all pickup items apart from bombs, because bow and arrow will just be used against you once you drop it.
