I'm always a little surprised and depressed that Masterforce didn't have more of an influence on Transformers lore, since I feel that it was the only one of the pre-Beast Wars cartoons that was any good.
I understand why they /didn't/ because it would've taken focus off of the Cybertronian Transformers and giant sentient robots are a lot rarer than humans in giant robots, but still.

Fuck yeah, Masterfore was GOOD. I still find the principle of pretenders absurd and humans transforming into robot heads must REALLY be not confortable if one is not a contortionist. Still, the overall series was WAY superior than the second and 3rd seasons of the G1 cartoon.

I'd say that Masterforce was flat-out superior to any pre-Beast Wars cartoon. Including the first season of G1. Headmasters and Victory? No contest.
It's really different from the rest of the series (even the other Japanese G cartoons) but different in a good way.

My biggest problem with Masterforce is the fact that it doesn't take place too long after Headmasters and the original series, yet everybody seems to have forgotten about the giant alien robots and all of the various technology gained. It looks very much like the real world of the 1980s, not some time after the year 2010 when it should be set.
