Because of the manga. The ORAS arc has them featured as a side-story with just the two of them and their given past together isn't forced.
Another pairing for Red is unreasonably forced it's almost as bad as Arrow's S3 and S4 Felicity nonsense.

You mean Felicity and Friends, right? ORGANIC.
No, but seriously. It's nice to see a pairing other than Red and Yellow. Been re-reading a ton of Pokemon Special lately and it's always neat to read something that you don't really glance at or notice because the bandwagon is "Red and Yellow" and "Green and Blue" when after re-reading all of this, Red and Blue has so much more than "Red and Yellow" and "Green and Blue".
Makes me wonder why all the fans go to that bandwagon.

Anon 1965949, you do realize that your postulate (Red and Yellow, Green and Blue) is at most only true on the former count? Green/Blue *isn't* established in the manga, it was established by the fandom Pairing the Spares among the Kanto quartet.
Anon 1965893, the fandom jumps on the bandwagon because that is easier than actually thinking for yourself, and/or because the fandom has broadly and mostly unconsciously embraced fanon/thought-terminating cliches that serve only to negate other ships - like the common belief that Pokedex Holders must be paired with others of their 'own' region, or the false idea that Frontier is purely sibling-like.
