To make a living drawing porn, people need to pay them.

Otherwise, they'll see that they can't afford food or rent anymore from drawing, and so they'll give it up and get a job that allows them to make a living.

Why do people fail to understand this.

The problem is not Patreon. The problem is the people that do this sh*t

No matter what reason the artist has, I still hate this as a human being.

We have a patreon tag, so we just need to use it more so blacklisting works on them.

"To make a living drawing porn, people need to pay them. Otherwise, they'll see that they can't afford food or rent anymore from drawing, and so they'll give it up and get a job that allows them to make a living."

Preparing for the downvotes and "muh entitlement", but this EXACTLY why it's cancer. They are trying to squeeze a living out of something that you historically can't make a stable income or a decent living out of and brute forcing it with every unpalatable trick in the book. Instead of being driven by passion like it was in the earlier years and everyone realizing that it was wiser and more logical to have a more stable income on the side, conveniently all of a sudden everyone needs "food on the table", seemingly can only be motivated by funds and are doing everything they can to try to make this sinking ship float because there are never a shortage of people on the internet who will throw you money for just about anything, including both good and shit digital art.

Even worse, imagine years from now when Patreon will likely be irrelevant, all these archives of images of a logo of one mere service is going to look pretty damn silly, especially considering how close Patreon has come to on multiple occasions to ban NSFW and the tighter rules they keep implementing, which will only rocket as the service becomes more widely used.

Artists, especially based on commission work and donations, is not a stable choice for a livelihood and never will be. I don't know why so many are trying to make it a thing. There's wanting to make your dreams a reality, and then there is being realistic.

It's because today many people live under the illusion that because they put effort and time into something, that makes it have instant value. This isn't the case, nor has it ever been the case, as value comes from what somebody is willing to pay for it, and that varies from person to person.

Today with things like patreon where people who do think it has value can pay for it, but that only further fosters the illusion that these things have inherent value. Hence, you get people who believe that they can make a proper living off of such things, and like everything, you get people who think that they have "a right" to do so.

Nobody has "a right" to make a living off of anything. They can have the ability to, and some people do. But don't think for a second that anybody has an obligation to support these people. If they cannot make enough for basic necessities, then they need to change the way they make money, not try and push the "value" of their product even harder in the vain hope that they'll make enough to sustain them.

I feel like Patreon artists get into it exactly because it IS their passion, though. I don't know any creative people who wouldn't love to get paid for their creations. They would rather spend their time and effort on what they enjoy than on a job they only took because they had to pay the bills. That seems like a pretty universal desire to me. Patreon makes it easy for people to try and get paid doing what they love. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. It hits the artist way harder than it hits any of us. I don't get why so many people are so stressed about artists giving it a shot.

I have no problem with the people who honestly give it a shot because it's a passion of theirs. The people who let their works speak for their talent, ensuring that people will keep giving them money for what they consider to be of value.

This sort of thing is purely designed to draw people in to give them money to get "the full work". It's not about the actual quality of the piece, but rather to fulfill the impulse to have the full thing. This is very much like the trash tabloids in supermarket check outs with covers designed to grab your attention and get you to buy it, or the candy there. It's all spur of the moment eye grabbing attention to separate you from your cash.
