Multiple appeals to some people.

For one thing she's most of us... but a girl.

For some, just being a girl at all is appeal. Anything that moves you see.

Also, heavily flawed and socially inept girl implies "getability" to guys who are intimidated by the prettier girls out there. It isn't all nice and it isn't even true but men think it. Oh they think it.
