Actual solution if technically flawed due to differing load on each engine(thus revs difficult to keep perfectly constant-though some fudgery with variable pitch may mitigate)
The engines are synced so that the props interlock like gears and not colide similar to how WW1 planes didn't hit their props with their own guns.
Simpler method is to say that when straigthened out the big airtakes touch each other before the props get to close to each other. But where is the fun in that8though it does address some efficiency of prop wash)
