Never learn practical fighting and swordplay. You'll never be able to easily enjoy stuff like this without cringing at all the fatal mistakes being made by the combatants. Not to mention the unpractical choices like why a mid-ranged weapon user would choose to fight in close range.

Yep. Same problem I've had with a lot of fighting scenes. Especially ones that use impractical weaponry most notably the scythe as one of them.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_scythe

Scythe isn't too far off from a Halberd.

Granted, I always thought Halberds were highly impractical too.

Anon2 meant regular farming scythes used as weapons in anime/gaming/etc. (like Maka Albarn, or Zasalamel from Soul Calibur). There's a reason war scythes are different than farming scythes, but farming scythes look cooler/edgy-er than war scythes.

No anon4 I didn't, I was talking about the stupid and potentially fatal/stupid mistakes being made in this gif.

Anti_Gendou the Halberd is actually a /very/ practical weapon.

1. The swords-woman stands in reach of the Halberd.
2. The woman with the halberd makes absolutely no use of the weapon's superior reach.
3. The swords-woman jumps.
4. The halberd woman doesn't kill her mid-jump and instead just watches her.
5. The halberd woman makes a jab at the swords-woman who is on one knee and barley avoided it with her sword lowered, instead of turning the blade and ending it with a downward cut she pulls the blade back because reasons.
6. The swords-woman swings for the halberd and not the fighter because reasons.
7. Instead of taking advantage of the swords-woman's fatal blunder and striking her down she pulls the halberd behind her and tries to jab with the butt of the shaft... This has got to be the stupidest move in this gif hands down. It's highly impractical, greatly limits the reach(the main advantage of the halberd in the first place). Not to mention she is turning her back to the attacker and crossing her legs making her not being knocked over and killed a miracle... Or the swords-woman an idiot for not taking advantage. Which brings me to;
8. Instead of taking the halberd woman out, she swings for the Halberd.
Really I can go on.

Why are people assuming they're fighting to kill? They're sister ships after all, so I look at this as a highly spirited sparring session.

And? How would one better themselves by holding back to the point of fatal mistakes? Even if only sparring, they won't get better by practicing bad form and bad tactics. In fact in it would likely make them worse as they would end up getting into habitual movements.

I totally get where you're coming from, I found I could more easily deal with such things by reminding myself that its all for the sake of entertainment.
I only begin to take acceptation when someone has the gall to say such antics are practical in any realistic sense.

The animation is pretty solid, and stylized feel to it oddly reminds me of RWBY for some reason.
I've never heard of this Furu-yari before now but after this I'm definitely gonna be snooping around for more work by him/her.
