Yes, Toriyama did hate it. In fact, he hated it so much the whole reason he made Battle of Gods was to give the world a GOOD Dragon Ball movie. After that, he decided to keep going for a bit with another movie, and then he just had enough ideas that he decided to go ahead and start up a brand new Dragon Ball series.

So basically, if Evolution was never made, we probably would not have gotten Battle of Gods, Ressurection F, and Dragon Ball Super.
