Eh, not really..
I watched the first two seasons out of boredom. Its a generic harem with generic harem tropes, but if you have nothing better to do it might be worth a watch to at least kill time..
Its not terrible, but it isn't spectacular either..

If you can call High School DxD a "generic" harem, you clearly haven't spent much time around the harem genre. While I do enjoy reading Love Hina, it codified many of the tropes that have bogged down the harem genre in the decade since: spineless MC, accidental pervert, pervert revenge mode, unwanted harem, oblivious to love (arguably, this one's just suffocating the entire shounen genre, but it's very prevalent in harem), first girl wins, the list goes on. High School DxD has none of that, except maybe the last, which is intentional; after you got stabbed in the stomach and left to bleed to death by your first girlfriend, who then tries to kill you again every time you meet, wouldn't YOU be a bit hesitant about believing a girl might be genuinely interested in you?
Issei is far from spineless, he is actively seeking a harem (and they're all willing to share), and even when his perverse moments are accidental (they're mostly intentional), the one and only time he's ever been hit for it (to my knowledge) was when he was hiding out in a locker in the girl's locker room to spy on them; and let's face it, he deserved that one. If you think otherwise, you're either a creep or a hormonal 15-year old with wild delusions about what actually happens in a girl's locker room... Can't quite decide which is worse.
Yes, it can be cheesy and a bit cliche at times (what isn't, these days?), but calling it generic is a bit of a stretch.

The show isn't bad, but it is certainly nothing new, its generic at best dude. The only real spin to it is that it will have occasional fights from time to time, but that's nothing new to harem either if the theme is right. Its just another average anime that's completely ok to watch if you want.

We are talking about a guy who auto-counters god slaying creatures like Fenrir if they even attempt to go after one of his girls.
We are talking about a guy who goes out of his way to help the people around him overcome their problems and pasts.
We are talking about a guy who can nearly shatter pocket dimensions on his own if anyone hurts his friends.
Issei is a badass who worked for every single bit of power he has, and went above and beyond the actions of any harem lead in securing, protecting, caring, and helping the girls in his harem.
He is what every spineless MC wishes they could be.
