It's not Itachi's Fault, that there was no other Way to protect the Village from an impending Coup d'état.
Actually, i'd blame that one on Obito.
The Kyūbi-Incident made the impending Coup d'état a more imminent Danger, which otherwise might have been avoidable.
And we all know, that it was Obito, who extracted the Kyūbi and then summoned it right in the Middle of Konoha.
Heck, Obito even helped Itachi slaughter the Clan.
And why?
Because Obito failed to handle Reality.
He "only wanted to wake up from a nightmare"?
Then why didn't he just do that?
Why did he have to (intend to) drag literally the entire World (including civilian Girls, Children and all) down with him?
That very "if i'm going down, i'll drag everyone else with me"-Mentality alone makes Obito more crazy than Itachi.

Rin wasn't a spy from the Water, the Water village just shoved the 3 tails into her while she was captured so they could release it when she reached the Leaf, that's why she suicided herself by jumping into Kakashi's raikiri.
And quite frankly Itachi is not very good in the head as well, I can understand the clan massacre and all that he did to protect the village and Sasuke, but... mindraping his young brother twice? "I failed", the heck did he expected to accomplish with that, of course Sasuke would turn insane anyone would if he was 4 or 5 years old and would find his parents dead with his brother claiming he killed them, then his brother mindrapes him into seeing all the ppl he was familiar die in front of him, and then reappears like 10 years later to mindrape him again.
Obito is a joke, "I'm gonna drag the world into a World War, because while I'm a 30 or 40 years old, I can get over that crush on a 10 years old girl that only saw me as a friend and is dead for 20 years and sacrificed herself for her friends JUST LIKE I DID." Even as he turned good he turns to Rin and says "I'm gonna save Kakashi so he doesn't get between us", even as a good guy he was still going for the same thing...
