Ahem, actually, a more correct answer is: SSRI drugs have the same effect all over the world.

Has nothing to do with human nature, just how the how the drugs are designed and what they do to you (which obviously works the same regardless of where you are on the planet).

@832441: Actually there's considerable variability in how individuals of differing ethnic backgrounds metabolize drugs.
It's actually a big problem in the US at the moment that drug testing is most often focused on white males, leading to improper dosing recommendations for women and minorities. Fortunately in recent years the bias has been noticed and begun to be addressed.
