This is a special musket she's holding there.
Though it has the typical hallmarks of old Japanese muskets (matchlock, swept down curved grip without a shoulder-stock, etc), it features an assembly of three barrels, which was a rarity.

Each barrel would be loaded with powder, and a ball, you'd rotate the barrels in place, the one being fired being on the top. Put some black powder in the flashpan there, then the match-cord on the hammer (which is missing in this picture, and would be kept lit), the trigger is pulled and the hammer flies down to light the powder in the pan, it burns up (in a flash), and the fire goes through the touch-hole, firing off the barrel.
Then you'd cock the hammer and rotate the next barrel in place, and charge it with powder, and it's ready for it's second shot.
