I figured it stood for being bat-shit? Or at least, looking at things from a different angle, to the point of seeming crazy to the people "on the ground." Madness and genius are two sides of the same coin, after all.

The Cat is so badass here! At the time of the first game they wanted to have him as a combat partner (I think there were screenshots and even a development movie) but failed to implement him correctly and so it was scrapped.
