you literary got a hard time understanding people...
he cares about his brother, in the end of DMC 3 he actually tells dante to leave the demon realm because he cared. and he cuts dante's hand to force him to leave and stop him from saving him because he felt guilty..
he's just simply wants power to avenge his parents no matter what cost him. and he never intended to kill dante in dmc 3, it's said it was in their mental twist..

I really don't accept that take on Nero's origins though. There's the age difference/the fact Vergil would have had to conceived him prior to DMC3, at age 18 or 19. Though he might have cared about Dante, I doubt someone like him would be able to have a romantic relationship or be as bohemian enough for a one-night-stand.
Then, it doesn't explain how his sword and parts of his armour ended up on Fortuna. Whatever happened, Nero's arm got injured and changed that same day, hence the sling and hence why nobody knew about his demonic power before the events of 4.
My theory is that Vergil escaped through the small Hellgate Agnus made in the Mitias Forest, being chased by a squad of Mundus' elites trying to capture him (hence why you see Assaults/Blades there first). Nero and Kyrie happened to run into them, a fight breaks out between Nero+the Holy Knights, the demons and Vergil/Nelo Angelo. Vergil gifts Nero a portion of his power via a shoulder injury, and Nero ends up collecting more power and storing it in his arm as the game goes on.

In a nutshell, Vergil is using Nero and his arm to collect power for him.
