Wanzer is no German word, it should mean "Wauzer", which is a midbreed of 2 dog types.

Wan is a Japanese onomatopoeic word used to describe barking, comparable to English "woof" and German "wau".

I think it is as it is because it's a cross between many words,
you know, a play on words,
So it probably has both or either of the meanings suggested.
