Now this makes me wonder, "What if Shinji had stayed with Wille and gotten to know Mari instead of Kaworu?"

She's just as carefree, and encouraging. She knows things that few people seem to know, could answer a lot of questions. And she doesn't seem to hold a grudge so maybe she actually WOULD answer Shinji's questions instead of ignoring him.

Generally I would agree BUT I think Mari was one of the least annoying and least abusive and least bitchy characters in 3.0 bigb. Rather than simply destroying unit-13, she jetisoned Shinji's entry plug. And hit the ground instead of letting him fall. And was yelling merely for the fact that unit-08's arms were burning like lava, which hurt.
