I think you guys misunderstand, it is the whole Alluka thing again, she is female but male references are gender neutral, like they used to be until recently in English. Killua's family does not view Alluka as human, so they don't recognize it as a her.
In terms of ants, chimera ants absorb DNA so she has some human female in there. Also, Ants are all female, except the male alates, which is the king.
But then again they aren't exactly able to breed - unless any colony free ant turns into a queen? In which case she is definitely female.
