^ Not necessarily. There have been several old Japanese tails from the 19th and 20th centuries mentioning trains caring spirits to the underworld/afterlife, although Final Fantasy VI is the only other one I can think of, and that went through a forest.

It isn't terribly uncommon for rail tracks to be on a raised bed anyway. In a place like Lake Pontchartrain where a storm surge can get in but is slow to get out you could have a situation like this for a week or two after a big storm.
