A naginata is the Japanese equivalent of a halberd.
The soldiers she's fighting have yari, a spear used (mostly) for stabbing rather than slashing. Very much a viable weapon to use in that situation without much risk of hitting your comrades.

I wouldn't say they're right but I wouldn't call them a weeaboo. That would imply they consider everything that's Japanese to be superior regardless of what it is, which they don't come off as seeming.
Anyways, a naginata is more like a sword on a long stick while a halberd is more like an axe and a spear that had a baby. They're both polearms, yes, but they're both rather different.
