@Nitrogen: I'm sorry, but that is a completely asinine thing to say. Gen 1 was alright, but it wasn't the greatest gen, and most only say that due to nostalgia and/or attempting to be elitist jerks. You like Gen 1 starters... alright, good for you. Just don't act like what you say is the truth.
And Pokemon in its prime? Whatever do you mean by that? Are you talking about back when the games were incredibly glitchy and borked to hell? Or when it was mainly in fad status? I mean, it may no longer be in fad status and everywhere, but it's still one of the most popular franchises, and isn't exactly dwindling all that much.

A lot of the starters are cute, really. While I like fire in general, I actually chose a different type of starter each time. Since my younger siblings play as well, between the three of us, we always had all of the starters.
I've been playing Pokemon since it came out in the U.S., and I think I prefer some of the newer generation Pokemon, these days. However, that doesn't mean I don't still love some of my old favorites from older gens.
Out of the starters here, though, I think I like Chimchar and Snivy the best, although the others are all good choices, too.
