No, it's inspired by the original Evangelion series, from the Aircraft Carrier episode (somewhere mid-way in the series). She doesn't actually try this in the show, though.
Plus the Aircraft Carrier scenes seem to have been cut from the Rebuilds of Evangelion (new movies) so far...
