Now Viewing: etikaTag type: Character Tag refers to images referencing the popular Brooklyn-based video game streamer/reactor/Youtuber (May 12, 1990 to June 20, 2019). He was a dark-haired muscular dark-skinned African American with a dark flat top haircut. He was born Desmond Daniel Amofa on May 12, 1990. He was one of the sons of the Ghanian politician Owuraku Amofah. He had multiple Youtube accounts with his first one, TR1Iceman, created in 2006, but he wouldn't achieve fame on the platform until the mid 2010s. He went through multiple jobs/personas in his early years, starting off as an aspiring rapper named Iceman Etika in 2007 with the name Etika being derived from Sonic Battle where players could input a code named Ekita into the game. He then became a model, and finally a Youtuber. In his early Youtube work, he was much calmer and more serious with his videos being more informative, including a few news report style videos. By the mid-2010s, he developed his most famous persona, a video game streamer who reacted in a comically over the top fashion. When excited, it was not uncommon for him to literally fall out of his own chair or destroy his own property, complete with lots of shouting and profanity. He was most famous for his Super Smash Bros. reaction videos, one of which (the Mewtwo announcement reaction) was acknowledged by series creator Sakurai Masahiro himself, and playthroughs of various games, usually Nintendo ones. He acknowledged his past personas and work, but often expressed embarassment over them, leading to become running jokes/memes in his fandom. His streams were well known for his stalling, where he would go off on comedic tangents prior to the start of the video/gameplay and even in the middle of the video. Despite doing numerous video game playthrough streams, he only finished less than handful of them on stream. He loved fanservice and was open about which female characters he found attractive with Homura/Hikari (Xenoblade Chronicles 2) and Kamui (Fire Emblem if) being some of his favorites. He created an official name for his fanbase, the JoyCon Boyz, named after the Joycons on the Nintendo Switch, and was very active on social media. He was affectionately referred to as Guile-kun by his Japanese fans due to his hairstyle's resemblance to the Street Fighter character. He was in a relationship with fellow Youtuber Alice Pika who appeared on his streams, but they separated in 2017. However, the two still remained in contact and she supported him during his last few months. In the last few months of his life, Etika's mental health severely deteriorated. He suffered a public breakdown in October 2018, which was set off by Twitch and Youtube demonetizing him for his habit of saying variations of the word nigger, a controversial word usually considered acceptable for African American people to use but considered to be a racial slur when used by anyone else. In response, he uploaded porn on one of his Youtube channels, EtikaFRFx, which led to Youtube terminating it. After some time, he seemed to calm down, claiming that his behavior was just an overreaction and he continued streaming as normal. However, he suffered a much more severe breakdown in April 2019, one that he never truly recovered from, starting with posting erratic tweets that set off a tragic chain of events where he engaged in increasingly self destructive behavior that culminated in him releasing his final video on June 20, 2019, a suicide note/apology in video form, and committing suicide shortly afterwards.
