What is violet_(ac8231)?
Posted on: 06/15/24 05:47AM

Every post for the character violet_(ac8231) is marked as 'original' despite a multitude of sources, and the actual individual the name is associated with only having a few posts on site (by different names, apparently?). Posts including this character date back to 2022, and I was wondering what this is related to? Either somehow, *all* of these accounts it links to are alts, or it's mislabelled, I think. Personally, I'm baffled, and would like to know what this is actually from, if anywhere.

(First time using forums. Hopefully, this is proper usage.)

She's an original character belonging to ac8231 (Twitter username). Looking through their Twitter they mainly commission other people to draw their characters.

Would it be an 'original,' by Gelbooru terms, though, if it's drawn by someone else as a commission by the original artist? Far as I'm aware, it's explicitly for characters drawn directly by the original source of them, but I could be wrong? This seems a bit vague.

From the "original" wiki:

Artwork depicting a subject that isn't from any established copyright. Basically, art that is not fanart.

If the artwork shows a different artist's original character, include the borrowed_character tag as well.

I wonder how big something needs to be to become an 'established copyright.' Is there a clear definition for that, as well? I've always assumed it's based on the original author being the poster; otherwise *official* art from major studios wouldn't be considered 'original,' which seems strange. Or is that the case?

The original tag is basically just used for when you know that a character is an original creation of an artist and not part of any known series.

but still, when I looked at the arts,it's bearing a halo like some kind of secret Blue Archive character.

That doesn't disqualify them from being someone's original character.

And yet, certain images of lesser-known manga characters still receive the 'original' tag. What I assumed from this is that the images originating from the author themselves allowed it to qualify anyway.

Yeah, those are "poorly" tagged because people forgets or can't verify when something is either a fanart or an original creation, I for example avoid the tag "original" u less I'm sure it is original (I mistag too, remember a Frieren artwork I uploaded as original since I didn't know about the anime).

For now, tag what you see and if you see an established character from a rather unknown manga tagged as original you can fix that by adding the character name and the copyright, if the names don't appear you can be the first one and create the tags, when you click on edit simply write the following: character:her_name copyright:the_franchise

And if the tag already exists and isn't green or purple you can go to the Tags tab, search for the tag, and edit it from general to character/copyright.
