Sadly I don’t know much about either, other than what is displayed within the sexy fan art they produce. I do know they’re games about ship/boat waifus, and that Azur Lane is a mobile gacha game.
I still have no clue what Kantai Collection truly is to this day. Wiki says it’s some kind of Japan-Only, web browser game. And it’s surprisingly old, as it’s nearing a decade old. I have favorited pics of big titty KanColle girls without knowing who they are and didn’t know they were from it until much later.
Gonna go with Azur Lane because it’s newer and much more popular. In my perspective, nobody EVER talks about kancolle unless it’s specifically about the subject of ship/boat waifus.
Plus Taihou, Atago, and Kashino are thicc and juicy. Best girls.
For whatever reason, they refuse to ever release Kantai Collection outside of Japan. Of course, the KC anime also had them win Midway, totally in denial of history and fact.
Plus some head guy of KC shat all over AL, calling it "idol shit" and has "no heart". All while AL has, and still is, going full blast, dominating the global shipgirl game market. And also China. And Japan.
If they ever translated it, I'd give KC a try. But they seem to hate the very notion that I, a faithless gaijin, would ever dare dream of playing their shipgirl game.
I hate "aggressive big sister" types, which is why I cannot stand Atago from AL. Half decent design, shit personality. Which can be used for a lot of AL boats, really.
Kantai Collection, outside of stuff like Shimakaze, Mushashi and some others have more practical, if boring, designs. They tried to keep a unified theme with sisters in a ship class.
I started kancolle a couple months after its release. It was fun at the time. Not having any experience back then with browser games or gacha may have played a role. I stayed for about five years. Then they banned foreigners. I remember they had regular DDoS attacks during events, coming from foreign connections, so that may have played a role with it.
The browser game doesn't seem very popular anymore. But it's still in arcades after so long, so that part of the franchise seems to do fine. Both anime seasons were horrible.
Never touched AL, so can't really form an opinion on it. I do like some of the designs, such as Laffey.
