What do you think of Street Fighter 6, Tekken 8, and Mortal Kombat 1?

I am not much of a fighting game player, however I am having a blast with Street Fighter 6, and it's the first fighting game I'm actually sinking my teeth into. Which is making me also consider picking up Tekken 8 and Mortal Kombat 1 when they release.

If I had to give my opinion on each:

1. Street Fighter 6 was a very pleasant surprise. I'm no good at fighting games and tend to give up on them, but this game is keeping me very interested. I love that there's a full exploration mode like GTA, which is something you'd never expect in a fighting game. The new control scheme is very accessible, and it feels good to finally pull off Hadoukens and Shoryukens without having to mash buttons.

2. Tekken 8 looks very good. I probably won't pick this one up because Tekken is notoriously difficult and has a lot of moves to memorize.

3. Mortal Kombat 1 looks amazing. I think it has the best graphics of the bunch, but the excessive blood and gore just isn't up my alley. The gameplay looks very badass though, especially the tag team combat, and I hope they have simplified controls like Street Fighter.

Which game appeals most to you, and why?

Mortal Kombat 1 for it's charm and fun gameplay.
And it's kickass music.

I don't know why it's called Mortal Kombat 1 though. That's confusing as hell.

I'm aware it's some kind of reboot, but how are we supposed to differentiate Mortal Kombat 1 from Mortal Kombat 1?

It usually puts 1 in the first game to avoid confusion.
Like for example, if i'm going to talk about Sonic the Hedgehog (the game), i just say Sonic 1.

Ah you mean the reboot, i'm also confused.
I just say MK1R, but i thought it's the classic one.

Yeah, having two games called Mortal Kombat 1 is extremely confusing.

In fact, did you think I was talking about the first arcade game, or the upcoming game?

SF6 looked good for a while, but then, predictably, they started patching things and announcing DLC like every game does these days. Sorry, but I'm not paying for the entire game twice just to have all the characters and costumes. If Capcum keeps changing everything according to "the feedback of the players", then we will not have a game to play for much longer!

Tekken 8... I was actually a competitive Tekken player until the free-to-play Tekken game on PS3 and 360 came out. That's when I realized the franchise was kinda going in a different direction and the competitive community was gonna get alienated as we (understandably) got older and the new generation of gamers took over. This one looks like no exception to that trend.

MK1: I like how Liu Kang DIED in the old universe's canon, and now for some reason he's a god! Yeah, I guess since Tobias left the MK franchise to Ed Boon, there hasn't been anyone left who knows how to write those characters, so they just keep getting killed and brought back all over again. *cough cough*

But Mortal Kombat hasn't been taken seriously since its 2D days, so I no longer expect to compare their games with Street Fighter or Guilty Gear. It's more of something for entertainment value nowadays, which is why they are working with some pretty big studios on their SFX now.

I get what you mean about SF6, however announcing DLC early on is starting to become a very standard practice these days, and I'm enjoying the game too much currently to be upset about it.

I've known about tekken since I was a kid, but never really seriously played any of them. I had some fond memories of Tekken 5 and 6 though.

I was in a brief Mortal Kombat phase, but I think I became uninterested after MKX came out because I was no good at the games. I still think mortal kombat is super badass, but I'm squeamish enough that I sometimes close my eyes during the fatalities and X-rays.

Why must all fighting games have pants on head retarded plots?

Just have people beating one another up. I don't need gods or psychic powers or psychic powered gods or clones or half sister ninja being jealous of one another. I just wanna see people punching one another. Especially if they have big bouncy fun bags.

At least the first MK game kept the backstory to the manual and its premise was just beat up an old man to save the world. That's really all I need; you have to punch somebody until they give up.

You basically explained what Virtua Fighter is, and no one plays that.
