What do you think of RWBY?

RWBY, the American made anime with 3D graphics produced by Texas based web-animation studio, Rooster Teeth. The show about a fairy tale themed modern world full of monsters, magic, and crazy weapons. Starring the cutesy Ruby, the snobby Weiss, the mysterious blake, and tomboy shotgun punch girl Yang.

Personally I think RWBY is..... quite frankly..... pretty terrible in most aspects. But it has a few redeeming qualities. And for some reason, despite thinking the show's writing is awful, I've watched most of the episodes. I guess I like some aspects even if I think the overall package is aggressively mediocre.

I haven't watched RWBY but I think Yang is hot.

I keep up with the general plot points but I've never sat down and watched a full episode, from what I've heard it sounds exhausting.

That being said the character designs of the main cast are S-tier, especially Yang and it has inspired a lot of artists to draw a ton of great nsfw art so I've glad it exists even if I'm indifferent to the actual show.

RWBY was dogshit since day 1, but it was fun.
Not until after V3 is when it becomes infuriating, also turning Rooster Teeth to being huge scumbags.
But hey, atleast i have porns and memes.

No way Jose. It doesn't matter how big and shiny the eyes are, or how much excess blood there is - If it's not from Japan, it's not anime.

They rip models from Japanese MMD artists to this day so it's objectively trash. They have an entire team to make their SFM-quality webtoon that they're already using cheap realtime 3D for, and they still have to rip off assets from hobbyists! Absolute madness.

Well then, how else would you describe it? It certainly isn't in the style of a western cartoon. Something like "American anime" suffices.

Um, buddy? That was only for volumes 1-3. Since volume 4 in 2016, they've completely remade everything from the ground up. Volume 9 looks completely different from Volume 2, which was obviously made in MMD.

You both are objectively wrong, they used Smith Micro's Poser for vol 1-3, and Autodesk Maya from 4 onwards, using Monty Oum's original design sketches. At no point was MMD ever used or other peoples models.

I can't pinpoint what exactly I like about RWBY, all I know is I have enjoyed it from its inception. I can certainly admit vol 4 was a low point with Monty Oum's death but I really don't understand all the hate that the show gets.

Volume 1-3 models look extremely similar to MMD stuff, though. Even if they were animated in another program, I do believe MMD models were used as a base and then barely modified to avoid plagiarism concerns.

Maybe not hate, but I understand the criticisms. The writing is really amateurish, and the worldbuilding is very weak. Even when I watch crappy shows, I don't think "wow, this was written by a team of amateurs." as much as I do RWBY.

The show certainly lost its direction after Oum's death. At least the first two seasons didn't take itself as as seriously as the later ones, which means the writing didn't feel as ham-fisted as it does now.
