Posting *too* much? (flooding)
Posted on: 03/16/12 09:14PM

I've twice now gotten complaints (directly on pics, not via private message) complaining that I am posting too many pics from the same series at one time.

The first was one a Chibi Usa pic, after I posted somewhere around 150 of them. The second was on a Violinist of Hamlen pic after I posted a total of 24 of them.

Is there anything too this, or am I being trolled? Is there really a problem with posting too many pics of a single series at one time? If so, what kind of limit should I self-impose?

OTOH, if I'm being trolled, I'm perfectly fine to just ignore him/her. But I wanted to make sure that there was not some substance to the complaint before I did so.

If it's a member or anon complaining, it's a probably a worthless troll.

Continue contributing if you like as long as your uploads (and tagging) don't violate any of the "Terms of service".

It's an anon. And from the wording, I'm pretty sure that it's the same one, both times.

Very well. Unless I hear otherwise, I will just consider him/her to be a troll, and ignore him/her.

There is no rule against uploading a lot of one type of image at once. Some users may be annoyed by seeing so much of the same character at once (I mean, I was a little annoyed myself to be honest), but there's no rule or reason why you shouldn't. Rather, if you have that many images that aren't on the site already, we welcome the new additions to our collection, as long as they don't violate one of the image rules.

Danbooru stated it had a slight issue with CG sets and manga pages. (Similar to Gelbooru but not as strict)

Mostly due to the lack of guarantee of posting the entire set (they must have feared the annoyance of large sets only being partially uploaded), and the effort required to keep the sets organized and in order.

But an uploader focusing on a series or character isn't quite the same exactly. I don't mind a series of similar uploads appearing on the main search. I almost always search by tag anyway, where seeing a lot of images of a character or show is kind of... supposed to happen.

The fact that I just did the same thing OP did recently has nothing to do with it.

Not in and of itself. However, when people do this, especially the more obscure the character/series is, they generally don't have any regard for quality. They just grab everything they can find and dump it, maybe excising the the worst junk, but not necessarily. Skimming through your uploads you certainly seem to do this yourself.

On a similar note this can and does apply to artists as well. Just because they're a good artist doesn't mean everything they do or have done is good. You need to treat pieces individually.

Samemod here.

Everything here is truth. There's no rule against it here. Pics from the ninety's are always going to have some compression and oekake boards have there limitations we know. Just be careful about loading too many craptastic posts or you may be reported/watched more closely. If you see mods starting to delete your posts for quality; that should give you an indication of where the bar is set so-to-speak. Be mindful of the other rules too. I for one am glad to see many of your contributions and would like to see more.

Well, I can kind of see the person's point, if they were complaining about them all if they saw a bunch of one character popping up on a tag like 'pink hair' or something. I mean, you said it was Chibi Usa, right? Chances are they typed in loli or something and wanted to see a variety of different pictures or characters and not just see one of the same character over and over stretching on for pages.

Not saying you're wrong in any way though or that you shouldn't have uploaded the pictures, and if anything the person should've just PM'd you about it or been more civil, but I'm just saying that I can understand why they possibly might have been annoyed at it.

Well those that complain about seeing too much of one person (or thing) either needs to learn about the blacklist or/and type - before searching a tag like -chibi_usa.

Well, I meant searching a more general tag like 'loli' or 'bathing suit,' should've specified there, my bad. But you're right though, they could just blacklist things. Though what if they like the character in all actuality, but just don't want to see such a huge flood of pictures of them in one dose?

Bah, I'm taking something simple and making it complicated. Don't mind me, I'll shut up now.
